Tutorium Cockpit Design

Modern flight decks are the result of an ongoing decade-long development process. The requirements and challenges towards those flight decks are manifold, to adequately support a pilot during his duty.

In this course the students will be guided through the flight deck design process and will learn about the complexity of this development process. Working in teams of up to six students, they will go through the various usual development phases, which are concluded by interim and final review presentations of their progress. During the course, a future flight deck concept is developed, implemented in CAD and eventually evaluated.

The course is being offered every winter semester and is worth 4CP (Seminar). The lecturer of this course is Dr.-Ing. Jens Schiefe (Director Boeing Digital Aviation Research & Technology).

There are no domain-specific prerequisites. However, a general interest in aviation is recommended. Skills in the domains of product development, human-factors engineering and CAD are helpful.

Although participants are working teams, individual grades are assigned. The grades are calculated based on two partial grades:

  • During the seminar, the students will be tasked to present their current project status three times. Two of these presentations are considered interim presentations, while the last one is the final presentation which is the major contributing factor for this partial grade.
  • The second part of the overall grade consists of the written development documentation and the CAD model created during the seminar.

Please register for this seminar in TUCaN. Afterwards, you will be automatically subscribed at the e-learning portal Moodle. There you can download the seminar notes and find current information regarding the seminar dates. There will be an information session before the start of the seminar, the date and place will be announced before.

You will need your TU-ID (e.g.: „ab12ebob.stud.tu“ > TUCaN/Moodle: „ab12ebob“) and your password. In case you need help with your TU-ID or the registration, please contact the e-learning center of the HRZ.
