Do they have space research at TU Darmstadt? The question is obvious, is Darmstadt known as the location of the European Space Operations Centre (ESA/ESOC) or the satellite operator EUMETSAT as " Europe's Gateway to Space". With the colloquium "Space @ TU Darmstadt" the TU started an event with showcase character: In three to five evening sessions per semester current and fundamental topics from the field of astronautics are addressed.

“For topics and speakers we can draw on the full potential of the diverse space scene in Darmstadt”, explains Reinhold Bertrand, initiator of the colloquium and himself a lecturer for the lecture Foundations of Space Systems at the TU. “In particular, topics with interdisciplinary and socially relevant aspects of space travel should be the focus of the events. We also attach great importance to the direct participation of the students in the selection of topics and organization of the event”.

After a lecture there will be enough space for questions and discussion. The topics will be related to space technology, but also take up interdisciplinary aspects. Special emphasis will be placed on the relationship to students and members of the TU, but also on the importance and opportunities that can arise from space technology for society. Accordingly lecturers from space relevant areas, preferably with local relevance, will be included.

Students and members of the TU Darmstadt as well as guests are cordially invited to the events.

Space travel at the TU Darmstadt

In recent years, space travel has become an integral part of the courses offered at the TU Darmstadt. At the FSR we hold the lectures Foundations of Space Systems and Space Debris . A further expansion of the range of lectures is planned and the further intensification of the cooperation between the TU and ESA0/ ESOC in teaching and research is discussed or prepared.
