Tutorial Flight Mechanics

In this practical course, a test motor glider (Grob G109b) and the Diamond DA 40-180 flight simulator of the TU are used. The trials consist of preliminary tests on the simulator and measurements of the glider's flight performance and characteristics in flight.

For this purpose, every participant is allowed to take part in a measurement flight accompanied by an experienced pilot or flight instructor.

In the “Tutorium Flugmechanik” 4 CPs can be gained.

The flight mechanics laboratory course will be held in every summer term.

The practical course is composed of several activities:

  • Preliminary meeting
  • Preliminary tests on the flight simulator
  • Flight tests at Griesheim airfield
  • Colloquium at the Institute
  • Attendance to the lecture Flight Mechanics I (FM II recommended)
  • Experience working with MATLAB
  • Flexibility in terms of time / commitment

The maximum number of participants is 15. The application for admission to the practical course will take place in the Institute directly after the preliminary meeting giving details about the program of studies, number of semesters and tutorials completed. After admission to the practical course by the Institute, the tutorial can be registered at the department of mechanical engineering.
