Master Thesis

Conceptual Design and Implementation of a Trajectory Protection System

2016/11/15

Background

In future air traffic flights will be carried along four dimensional trajectories, where advanced flight management systems (FMS) will plan and monitor the flight.

Scope of the thesis

The scope of this thesis is to design, implement and evaluate a Trajectory Protection System (TPS) for an advanced FMS. The TPS will evaluate given trajectories regarding the feasibility of their execution. This includes the abidance of the flight envelope as well as the estimated fuel consumption or the maximum allowed distance to suitable airports in remote regions. Since estimated values like weather forecasts and aircraft performance have a strong role in the trajectories evaluation, a confidence factor shall be implemented which expresses the likelihood of a successful trajectory execution.

Tasks:

  • Literature review to the subjects Trajectory Based Operations and Flight Management Systems
  • Develop requirements fort he TPS
  • Implement and Evaluate the TPS
  • Documentation and Presentation of the results
  • Experience in flightperformace/dynamics as well as Matlab/Java/C++ are helpful
